Veteran Pakistani actor Qavi Khan passed away on Sunday. He was 80. The renowned actor died of a prolonged illness and was in Canada for treatment, where he breathed his last.

Khan’s riveting performance as Ghalib at the Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA) or his acting in the PTV drama Koi Na Adda Sanj Mila, both of which he hails from Peshawar, are testaments to his decades-long career. Aside from television and theatre, he consistently demonstrated his artistic ability in films and radio.

Qavi began his career at Radio Pakistan Peshawar at a young age. From there, he rose to television stardom and moved to Pakistan. He began his career in PTV and Lollywood films in 1964, and he was one of the few actors who witnessed the film industry’s decline firsthand.

He married in 1968 and had four children, all of whom chose to live abroad rather than follow in his footsteps. He travelled the world but returned to his homeland.

Andhera Ujala, Fishar, Lahore Gate, Mutthi Bhar Mitti, Betiyan, Cinderella, and Dure Shahwar were among the many dramas in which he appeared. He also made a name for himself in Pakistani cinema, appearing in films such as Muhabbat Zindagi Hai, Chand Suraj, Sarfrosh, Kalay Chor, Zameen Aasman, and Pari.

He eventually became a director after a long acting career in television, theatre, and films. He became obsessed with the prospect of making movies. But it was a business that went beyond his creative abilities. He was far too straightforward for the devious ways of distributors and exhibitors. He lost a lot of money in this business.

Khan was most recently seen in Fizza Ali Meerza and Nabeel Qureshi’s Quaid-e-Azam Zindabad, which also starred Mahira Khan and Fahad Mustafa. His most recent television project was Meri Shehzadi, starring Urwa Hocane and Ali Rehman Khan. On the show, Khan played Hocane’s grandfather. However, due to his failing health, he left the project.
