  • Security concerns raised about the Prime Minister’s Office

The incident has prompted concerns regarding the security of the Prime Minister’s Office, among other things (PMO). However, the administration has yet to respond.

The first set of recordings, which purportedly contained a conversation between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and one of his advisers, was made public a day ago.

A voice purported to be PM Shehbaz could be heard saying in the almost two-minute-long audio clip that Maryam Nawaz had asked him to help her son-in-law with the import of machinery from India.

Another clip allegedly depicts a conversation between PML-N Vice President Maryam and the premier concerning Finance Minister Miftah Ismail, who has faced criticism from his party leadership for making difficult economic decisions in order to preserve Pakistan from default.

“He doesn’t take responsibility […] says bizarre things on TV which people make fun of him for […] he doesn’t know what he is doing,” the supposed clip’s voice added.

“He certainly cut corners,” a voice identified as PM Shehbaz may be heard saying.

In response to the news, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry claimed the country is at risk of being plagued by cyber attacks, and that PM House data has been sold on the dark web.

“It is a significant failure of our intelligence organisations, particularly the Intelligence Bureau (IB),” he wrote on Twitter.

“Aside from political issues, they have crucial discussions on security and foreign affairs,” he continued.

Shireen Mazari, former human rights minister and PTI leader, claimed that one of the reported audios revealed the PML-plot N’s to build the groundwork for Dar’s comeback.

“The Leaked audios clearly show the influence of felon Nawaz Sharif and his prisoner-on-bail daughter in the functioning of this imported government, which is a cabal of crooks,” she stated.

The development comes weeks after two audio tapes surfaced on social and mainstream media in which a man identified as Shaukat Tarin could be heard directing the finance ministers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab to inform the federal government and the IMF of their inability to commit to a provincial budget surplus in light of Pakistan’s recent floods.

“We merely wanted the provincial finance minister to write to the federal government so that “pressure falls on them… they’re jailing us, charging terrorism charges against us, and they’re getting away with it.” “We can’t let this happen,” Tarin’s voice is heard addressing Punjab Finance Minister Mohsin Leghari.

Following the recording release, Tarin denied the treason charges levelled against him, claiming that anything he stated was in the national interest.

The former finance minister said it was wrong to call him a “traitor” because he had not done any treason, and that whatever he said was for the sake of the country’s 220 million people.

Following the leaked audio, the existing administration accused the PTI of plotting to disrupt the IMF agreement.

“This is awful. “Shukat Tarin and Taimur Jhagra should withdraw from politics,” stated Finance Minister Miftah Ismail.
