(Infosette News) ISLAMABAD: On Friday, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) ordered PEMRA to resume transmitting ARY NEWS on cable within an hour and threatened to take action against the regulatory authority’s head in the event of non-compliance, according to ARY NEWS.
A petition challenging the suspension of ARY NEWS cable transmission was heard under the direction of IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah.
Aitzaz Ahsan, a senior attorney, and the news channel’s management also made appearances before the court.
Stop tampering with the court. With the channel’s suspension, 4,000 employees’ fundamental rights are being violated, the judge said. Why haven’t you started the channel’s transmission again if you didn’t shut it down? questioned CJ Athar Minallah.
The cable operators have received a show-cause notice, according to the PEMRA representative.
The CJ IHC replied, “Are you trying to insinuate that cable operators are controlling the country,” and instructed the PEMRA representative to return the channel to its original location in an hour.
The chief judge said that the PEMRA chairman would have to appear before the court on Monday if ARY NEWS was not restored in an hour.
Additionally, the IHC instructed the secretary of information and broadcasting to act in this regard and personally appear before the court.
The hearing was later postponed until Monday by the court.
PEMRA has shut down ARY News’ broadcasting for the past 23 days.
Due to the lack of a documented order regarding the closure of ARY News, the IHC CJ ordered PEMRA to immediately resume transmission.
