Fast forward 15 or so years and a woman from Poland has made headlines claiming that she is indeed Madeleine McCann.

The story behind the girl claiming to be Madeleine McCann

Julia Wendell, who has gone viral for her Instagram account @iammadeleinemcann, believes she is the missing McCann after hearing something from her grandmother.

Wendell also claims she was approached by the McCann family and claimed to have a freckle on her leg as well as a speck in her eye in the same places as Madeleine.

“I talked with someone from Madeleine‘s family and I will have a possibility to talk with Madeleine’s parents tomorrow and a DNA test will be done soon,” Wendell wrote on an Instagram story.

Investigator disputes Julia Wendell’s Madeleine McCann claims

However, a private detective named Francisco Marco disputes Wendell‘s claims, stating that his analysis shows no resemblance between the pair.

“I have done a biometric search and there is no resemblance to Madeleine’s features,” Marco told RAC1.

However, the detective stopped short of stating Wendell was committing fraud.

“I can think it’s a fraud, but I can’t say without evidence,” Marco continued.

“This girl contacted the police and no one paid attention to her, and she later opened the Instagram account where she now has thousands of followers when she had very few before.”
